Kate started On the Side DESIGN, LLC in 2022 to offer clients a project partner specializing in preservation, design, and grant assistance. Kate brings immediate value to any preservation project through her project management skills, ability to concisely articulate the defined scope of work, knowledge and understanding of historic buildings, and ability to navigate the regulatory processes associated with them. Kate believes an architect is a client’s trustworthy advocate to accomplish the project they desire, within the needed timeframe, and within their expected budget.

Our Why
At On the Side DESIGN, we believe the most sustainable building is a reused building. The embodied energy and craftsmanship of older buildings are something to protect in this age of all-too-often disposable architecture. We believe in the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation as best practice guidance for older buildings. We welcome local and State Historic Preservation Office guidance for the stewardship of our collective cultural resources. At On the Side DESIGN, we maintain that when new construction and building infill are necessary, sensitivity to the context of place is crucial to the success of the project.
